KYIV BORYSPIL AND KYIV INTERNATIONAL (ZHULIANY) AIRPORTS
The top flight destination for Ukraine is Kyiv, which makes sense given that it’s the capital. Most international flights to Kyiv land at Boryspil International Airport, which is located about 30 km from the center of the city. These daysmore than 30 airlines operate out of Kyiv Boryspil Airport, including Ukrainian International Airlines, Lufthansa, Delta Airlines, AirFrance, Austrian, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, LOT, Turkish airlines, Etihad Airlines, Swiss International and many more.
There is another Kyiv airport – Kyiv International airport (IEV) (Zhuliany) which is about 10 km from the central part of the city and from over here you can fly with Wizz Air, Fly Dubai Airlines, Air Moldova, Belavia Belarusian Airlines, Georgian Airways and some other.
Kyiv Boryspil Airport is the home airport for Ukraine International Airlines and offers nonstop flights to more than 60 cities.
Domestically from Kyiv you can fly to Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Ivano-Frankivsk. Most flights are about 1 hour. Terminal D in Kyiv Boryspil airport, which was opened in 2012, serves international arrivals and departures (1st and 3d floors) and domestic flights (2nd floor for departures).
This map of the terminal D helps you to orientate better at the Kyiv Boryspil airport – the biggest airport in Ukraine.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A LONG LAYOVER?
If you have a long layover in Kyiv and you do not need a visa to Ukraine, you might as well do a short tour in Kyiv for a few hours. But please note, when you leave any Ukraine airport, you will need to go through the security process again, and it can take some time.
HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE CITY CENTER?
The best and most comfortable way to get to the city center from the airports is to order a taxi. But if you travel on a budget, then from Kyiv Boryspil airport you can ride the Boryspol Kyiv Express that goes daily from the airport to the Railway station according to the schedule. More information you can see HERE…
It will take you about 30-40 minutes. By car/van it will be the about an hour. From the other airports in Ukraine you will need to get a taxi or order a private transfer, since there are no shuttle busses, and connections for public transportation are not good at all.
So, generally, the best way to get to Ukraine is to fly to Kyiv Boryspil airport, which offers good connections for reasonable prices. But we will talk about it in more detail in the next articles.
