Khortytsia Island is the biggest island on the Dnieper River and the subject of many myths and legends. In the 16th century, the island was the heart of the Cossacks’ Republic who based here on their Zaporizhian Sich. Now the historic-cultural complex ‘Zaporizhian Sich’ demonstrates reconstruction of an old Cossack fortress and brings visitors back into the Sich atmosphere of 16th – 18th centuries.
