Moldova is a perfect destination for those travelers who prefer peaceful tranquil destinations without crowds of tourists. Although the country is not well-known among experienced seekers of new impression it still has what to demonstrate.

Traditionally big cities of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, and Tiraspol are the most visited by tourists. Chisinau stands out from other capitals because of the compelling contrast between older buildings which were built during Soviet times, just built shiny buildings and many historical monuments dating from city’s foundation in 1436. Due to innumerable parks and the highest proportions of natural spaces in the city the capital of Moldova is considered to be one of the greenest cities in Europe.

Old churches and remains of ancient cave monasteries are parts of the country’s cultural heritage. The museum complex Old Orhei with a system of historical monuments and natural landscapes is famous for the cave monasteries located there. Although Saharna Monastery, Tipova Monastery, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral do not have any architectural significance, they still have an indisputable historical value.

But what really makes the country attractive for thousands of tourists is the wine industry. Moldovan high quality original wines claiming their place among the world’s best, and the annual Wine Festival that takes place every first week in October is one of the most important events for the whole country.

Various winery tours around the country are specially designed for wine lovers. The second largest in Moldova Cricova’s wine cellars has a huge collection of more than 1 million vintage wines, and would impress lovers of sparkling wine. The Milestii Mici winery is known for having the longest wine tunnels in the country. Purcari is the oldest wine estate in Moldova, established in 1827. Chateau Cojusna is the best for the dessert wine and Cognac lovers. Taking one of the winery tours is a great opportunity not only to taste the best from local wines but work in the vineyards during the harvest, and gain a more intimate wine making experience.

And when you are tired of sightseeing and tasting wines visiting one of the numerous peaceful nature and landscaping reserves would be a proper end for your trip around Moldova.
