Traveling to Central and Northern Ukraine is traveling to the very heart of Ukraine. It is not only visiting Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, Chernihiv, Kamyanets-Podilskyy, Zhytomyr or Uman. Chernihiv region is one of the most attractive travel destinations. In the medieval times Chernihiv was the second significant center of Kievan Rus state and till now more than 100 magnificence architectural ensembles of the 11th – 18th centuries amaze tourist. The most remarkable are the Pyatnytska Church and Boris-and-Gleb Cathedral, built in the 12th century, the Saviour Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Savior’s Transfiguration, and the Caves of Saint Anthony.

The city of Uman attracts lots of visitors to Cherkassy region. In 1796 Polish count Stanislav Potocki founded there a beautiful park as a birthday gift to his wife. According to the original idea of its creators each composition or small architectural form in the park illustrates ‘Iliad’ and ‘Odyssey’ by Homer. Due to splendid ponds, cascades of water; mountain streams and waterfalls, statues of ancient gods and mythical characters, and a unique collection of plants the park is a perfect example of world garden design.

Unique natural landscape adds some special peculiarities to always peaceful and tranquil Zhytomir. Located along banks of some rivers the city is also surrounded with century-old forests. Seems nature itself contributed to the list of local sights and created unusual rocks knows as “Chatsky head” and “Four Brother”.

Traveling around small towns in Central and Northern Ukraine is a good way to learn more about life of Cossack in the 17-19 centuries. Visit the former Cossack capital National Historical and Cultural Preserve in Baturin, old churches and cathedrals built during the days of Cossack glory in Nizhyn, the only Ukrainian palace and park complex which has been preserved in its entirety in Kachanovka, first mentioned in 1098 Kozelets, and you will definitely further your knowledge of Ukrainian history.
